Influenza vaccination 2022/23

The permanent vaccination commission (STIKO) recommends the annual flu vaccination for children and teenagers with an increased health risk due to an underlying disease (e.g. asthma, diabetes, chronic diseases, etc.).

At this age, infections as well as harmless to life-threatening courses of illness are possible.

Vaccination can also be useful for travelers, depending on the destination and their own state of health.

The pathogens are spread worldwide. The flu viruses are transmitted by droplets, for example when sneezing, coughing or talking. In addition, there is a high risk of infection where many people are present (e.g. public refreshment facilities, schools, daycare centers).

Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and others against influenza.

It reduces the risk of getting sick at all or suffering serious complications.

The flu vaccination can be administered starting in October and is available as an injection.

If a particularly severe outbreak is expected regionally or worldwide, public health authorities make a separate call for vaccination to prevent the virus from spreading rapidly.
